Fantasy Football Jump Start

Now that the NFL Lockout is behind us and camp's will be in full swing this weekend, it is time to start you fantasy football Draft Prep. This week we will be keeping up with all the moves and post on how it will effect fantasy stocks. The next 10-14 could decide the power of
The NFL aswell as who will be your top fantasy players. There are some guys who could really benefit from a change of scenery. For example if Randy Moss ends up with a top QB he could have a monster year. You got Reggie Bush to, Ochs ends up in the right spot he could also have a career year.
So onething is clear, the next few weeks will change the Position Rankings for sure. We will help keep it all in perspective and update rankings as needed! Then on or around August 16th we will release our ore draft rankings, so your ready for your draft.

Do you have fantasy football questions? If so email us at: jbcodora@gmail.com or mryans@yahoo.com we will answer all emails. Also if anyone is interested in joining leagues with us post or let us know. We are also working twards a site in which all our readers can join leagues, it is allot of work but we hope to have it up and running soon! But it isn't easy so if anyone can help email us, or donate at the google check out. Thanks all

Readers Fantasy Football Questions

JB and I have both recieved emails from readers with fantasy football questions. A good majority of them have asked us about drafting What is called 'handcuffed' guys. For example if you had drafted Vick and late in your draft you take Kevin Kolb. Or if you take Adrian Petterson in the first later taking Toby Gearhart. This is something that every Fantasy owner must answer yearly. Personally it is a case by case thing.
There are certainly instances where I would recommend drafting a back up of a player you took early. But things must line up right at the same time. If I take Maurice Jones-Drew again this season I would again pick up Rashard Jennings again but as a free agent. This is where doing research before a draft is important. If you were to take Jamaal Charles and were adamant about having Thomas Jones you would more than likely have to use one of your 6-8 picks for him. Personally I don't like to use valuable picks for someone who is only valuable if a injury occurs. Thomas Jones has value but only in a 2-3 RB setting.
I do however believe in handcuffing you opponents, example last season when Frank Gore was Injured I set my alarm clock for 5:45am so I was awake when the waiver wire opened at 5:59am to pick up Brian Westbrook. I never played him but it helped knock my biggest competition in that league from 2nd place to out of the playoffs.
We will touch much more on this subject in the coming weeks, I just wanted to make sure readers didn't think we were disregarding the emails.

Contract Year Players

While fantasy owners must consider this years free agent market, who is holding out who ends up where, it is nearly as important to know who is playing in a contract year. Players playing in a contract year can be a good bet a good portion of the time. Some guys come out of a rookie contract and hungry to get a huge deal, some players are coming into there biggest contracts. So here is a list of players in contract years, in no particular order.

QUARTERBACKS

Michael Vick, Eagles, believe it or not this guy has another upside, it is a contract year and everyone must know he is hungry to get his first big contract since getting out of prison.

Kevin Kolb, Eagles, though he is unlikely to be a Eagle this season, the fact is where ever he plays he has allot to prove, but he has a chance to get big bucks.

Drew Brees, NO, no question he will be a Saint, but playing for a max deal bet he will produce, look at the amount of weapons he has around him to help.

Kyle Orton, Den, he is likely to be moved as Tim Tebow is set to take over after Orton had a career year. There has been talk of Orton to Arizona but I believe Kolb will be a much better fit. I think it is much more likely he will end up in either Cincinnati, or Seattle. But either place he will continue to put up good numbers in this play off season.

RUNNINGBACKS

Reggie Bush, NO, who knows were Reggie will play this year. But he is versitile fast and a great talent. Reggie is ready for a big deal.

Matt Forte, Chi, now some of our staff may not be big fans of Forte, but this guy had been a value for Chicago. He is set to make $550,000 this being his last year of his rookie contract. You can bet he will want to prove he is worth a big contract.

Frank Gore, SF, he has always been a fantasy owner favorite, wether there in a PPR league or not. The Hip is 100% according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus. He is already hungry to prove he still has some gas left in his tank. He will earn a new big contract.

Ryan Grant, GB, they say his ankle is 100% so this guy is not only going to start off the season sharing carries with Starks, but playing to earn a contract. Expect both to go in his favor.

LaDainian Tomlinson, NYJ, allot of talk that he will take a step back this year to Shonn Green, but he is playing for what will more than likely be his last contract.

Thomas Jones, KC, we have heard from a few contacts in the league that this could be his last season, but either way he is only tenured through this season.

WIDE RECIEVERS

Dwayne Bowe, KC, did last season's monster year come a season to early? We don't think so expect monster number for Bowe this season as he works twards a monster deal in 2011.

Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona, With Arizonas lack of talent, people would expect them to just use the franchise tag on Fitzgerald for the 2012 season. But he had a clause in his contract where if he gets franchised he will make $23 million, so don't expect that.

Marques Colston, NO, he has shown spurts of greatness here and there but with him and his QB playing for a contract it maybe a monster season for both.

Robert Meachem, NO, with 2 Wideouts playing for a contract the Saints may benifit the most.

Mario Manningham, NYG, he maybe the most interesting player in this category we think. If Steve Smith departs buy Manningham because it will be a monster year.

Reggie Wayne, IND, believe it or not he still had 111 grabs for 1300+ yards last year, he will earn one last monster deal.

Chang Ochocinco, Cin, once he is done wrestling gator, bull riding, be assured he will be ready to earn on the field, no matter who his QB is.

Wes Welker, NE, maybe a very important year for Welker, Coach Belichicks track record shows he allows vets leave before there production drops. He needs to prove his value!

Tightends

Mercedes Lewis, JAX, Fresh off his break out season if he continues he will get paid.

Jermichael Finley, GB, greenbay drafted Dj williams so was that a hint that Finely maybe on his way out? Either way good play he will be paid somewhere.

Greg Olsen, chi, Bears officials say he is their second priority behind Forte, so more good play will help him and fantasy owners in 2011.

Visanthe Shaincoe, MIN, The vikings drafted a young TE which may not be a good sign a him or fantasy owners. More will be known once camp finally opens but it could be a sticky situation in Minnesota for him.

Fantasy Football Reciever Rankings

1.) Andre Johnson, he is constant year to year expect the norm from him.

2.) Calvin Johnson, 12 TD's last year, with a healthy Matthew Stafford the lions will be moving the ball next season!

3.) Greg Jennings, I took Jim early last year and it paid off I will do it again this season, I believe he will produce monster numbers this season

4.)DeSean Jackson, 1000 yards last year with only 47 grabs, he will have more receptions yards and TD's this year and if you get return points then he is a big time fantasy player!

5.) Roddy White, he will consistently put up 10+ points!

6.) Mike Wallace, he is a premier talent, him and big Ben will connect early and often this year.

7.) Dwayne Bowe, he may not match his 15 tds this season but KC will move the ball through him.

8.)Reggie Wayne, he is getting older but he still runs great routes and the guy throwing to him is Payton manning.

9.) Hakeem Nicks, guy is a beast just like Calvin Johnson, one down fall is he is injury prone.

10.) Mike Williams, Bucs, huge red zone target and now that the Bucs have got a running game that can move the ball that should open him up for some big play's.

A few guys I'm scarred of taking to early Larry fitzgeral, just because we don't know who there signal caller will be. Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, Im not sure they can co-exist.

A few guys I like Kenny Britt, Brandson Lloyd, I gambled on him last year and it paid off big time, I believe he can put up good numbers again!

And then there is Vincent Jackson, if he gets traded or if the chargers figure out how to make him happy and he plays the entire season I think he belongs ranked at number 4.! He could lead the league in allot of categories if he plays a hole season!

Be sure to check out our past blogs for our QB and RB rankings!

Fantasy Football Runningback Rankings

1.) Adrian Peterson, no Brainer now that Favre isn't there these guys are going to have to run the ball, and run allot. Expecting numbers like 3 years ago.
2.) Chris Johnson, But.. There is allot of talk about him holding out for a new deal, if this is the case be cautious!, no one can afford to loose there first pick for any significant amount of time.
3.) Maurice Jones-Drew, MJD had 1641 yards from scrimmage in just 14 games, now he did have knee problems last year and played through it the entire year atleast until he missed the last two weeks.
4.) Arian Foster, last years top fantasy scorer but I worry that 1, ben Tate may steal some carries from him, and 2 with Owen wilson health and Andrea Johnson Im worried they may go on a pass happy track.
5.) Jamaal Charles, I took him early last year and it paid off, don't worry about Thomas jones like last year Charles will get his points you need from week to week.
6.) Ray Rice, Willis Mcgahee should be gone, I think he will get off to a more constant start this year.
7.) Rashard Mendenhall, 2nd most TDs last year, I expect a monster year from this guy! He will be a top 5 at the end of this year and a top pick next year! Mark those words!
8.) Frank Gore, allot of people are down on this guy, I think he will be ready to go and as sharpe as ever, remember he is in a new offense. Jim Harbaugh's offense could really help this guy explode, look what Toby Gerhart did in it!
9.) Darren McFadden, sure he has injury problems but this guy put up absolute monster numbers last year when healthy. I've heard allot of chatter that Michael Bush maybe gone once the lock out is over.
10.) LeSean McCoy, he doesn't put up monster rushing stats but his total yards from scrimmage make up for it!

Now if Chris Johnson holds out I wouldnt be in a hurry to draft him before the late 2nd or 3rd round. A few guys to watch for is Jahbid Best, the Lions will move the ball this year! He has had injury problems but if he can stay healthy look out! LeGarrette Blount, this guy didn't make his first start until week 7 and he put up over 1000 yards! Ryan grant!, this guy will have a chip on his shoulder expect big things!
Something to keep in mind if Carolina don't franchise DeAngelo Williams, I would rank Jonathon Stewart at number 8! Stewart will have a gigantic season with DeAngelo gone!
2 names I strongly suggest to stay away from, Michael Turner, Matt Forte, I won't and I suggest you don't touch these guys! Hype them up to friends and let them deal with the injuries and lake of scoring!
